I know as a mom it’s so easy to care about everybody else. Which is why I feel like it’s vital to discuss detoxing and why it’s important and how to take care of yourself a little bit better. As a mom it’s important to have times that we start taking care of ourselves.

Millions of us, over half the population, suffer from FLC Syndrome. That’s when you Feel Like Crap. Sometimes it’s annoying little symptoms such as achy joints or muscles, brain fog, fatigue, headaches, allergies or gas, or more serious problems such as autoimmune diseases, migraines, asthma, acne, irritable bowel, reflux, arthritis or worse.

A detox could be your solution to these and other problems. So come along with us to learn how to detox both our bodies and our minds!

Detoxing Bodies through Nutrition

The first thing I like to do every single morning is I drink lemon water. A few years ago I read research on what they now called structured water.

You know if an apple is sitting on a counter, it’s full of water and juices, right? Because if we juice it, it’s going to get all this apple juice from it. But the apple sitting there doesn’t just leak water. It’s structured. Structured water, H2O2, is very healing for our bodies. We know our bodies are the same way. We’re made mostly of water, but we don’t gush water when squished.

Although our blood is very watery our tissues hold water and it’s all the structured water. They found if you drink structured water you can create structured water and then drink it, it’s very healing powerful.

So what you do is you take lemons that have life giving substance in them and put them with a little bit of salt the night before. Then the water can change and become structured and when you drink it in the morning it has a very powerful ability to keep your body strong and cleansing and detoxing. It makes you more alkaline so it’s a great way to start the day.

I use quart size mason jars, fill it up with filtered water and I do one full sized lemon and two limes and a pinch of sea salt.

I don’t do my lemon water throughout the rest of the day because it can be hard on the teeth. So I just wake up, get out of bed, drink my water, then brush my teeth. With me brushing my teeth right after I’ve never had tooth decay issues in the fourteen years I’ve been doing this. I also don’t do it on the seventh day. For me that happens on Sunday. I take my rest day and I don’t worry about lemon water or anything like that. I like to do a lot of fasting and stuff on Sundays naturally.

If me or my kids are ever sick I do that same lemon water but I add cayenne pepper to it and heat it up. Just make sure the cayenne pepper sits overnight too. I use ninety thousand heat units of cayenne pepper, for my kids I use forty. I do a tablespoon of cayenne peppers in a full quart of water.

The Importance of Detoxing the Right Way

The other thing that I do in the morning is I don’t ever eat anything that’s not raw before noon. It’s a great way for me to focus on getting raw foods. So if you’re not doing a planned structured detox, just having a plan every single day is the same makes it easy. You can drink a green smoothie, or I do celery juice.

We have a lot of ways that we detox naturally. The first one is always going to be our bowels. Our body wants to clean out through our bowels. We also have our kidneys, our respiratory system, our liver, our gallbladder, and our skin acts as a second kidney. We still want to detox systematically. We don’t want to just detox our blood before we detox our bowels.

I know many people that have started detoxing and not done it correctly and end up with skin rashes. So you really want to make sure you’re detoxing in the correct way.

That’s why I love to use Dr. Christopher’s herbal cleansing kit. I do it at least twice a year just to get my body detoxing correctly. I tend to have bowel issues. I’ve had stomach issues for years and my stomach doesn’t absorb things correctly. So it’s hard to take all of the supplements and the good food, knowing I’m not absorbing it well. So I do that kit more than I recommend for most people just because I know I have stomach issues.

Detoxing Utilizing the Digestive System

As I look into so many people’s eyes, I always focus on the digestive system, which is right around your pupil area and that tends to be a place that people struggle with on an emotional and physical basis.

Our stomach is basically our power, it’s right at the core of who we are and we give away our power so easily to please people, or to show love and things like that. It’s hard to always stay in balance.

Then our colon, our small intestine, and the large intestine area is where we struggle with letting go or being in control feeling out of control of those emotions with all the toxic things around us and the negative thoughts and the chemicals in the food. It all gets to be a lot. So detoxing with an herbal supplement really helps rebuild the tissues while opening things up so that you can absorb things better.

Picture of the digestive system and four fireplaces with chimneys and the words "the digestive system and the four chimneys"

If you have a small room that has four fireplaces and you block off each of those fireplaces we know the room is going to get really smokey. That’s what tends to happen in our body when we’re not detoxing correctly. It acts like a room where all the chimneys have been blocked off.

So when we open up each one of those chimneys systematically it helps our body release toxins the right way and then bring in the nutrients that we’re taking and absorbing and using them correctly.

Even if you were to use a sauna or something, if you’re not detoxing correctly that can make you a little bit more toxic because you’re not doing it the right way.

I like to focus on my diet when I detox. Make sure I’m getting a lot of whole grains, fruits, vegetables, nuts and seeds. I tend to not eat a lot of meat. I know some detoxes focus on that but meat is acidic. The biggest and easiest way to tell if a food is acidic or alkaline is if something is alive and growing, it’s going to be alkaline for your body. If it’s dead, like meat or crackers or something, it’s going to be more acidic.

The easiest way to tell if your body is getting good foods into your diet, is that they're going to be more alkaline which are live whole foods. So you can eat things like grains if you sprout them and eat them in their natural state.

Detoxing Bodies Through Exercise

Picture of a trampoline and the words "detoxing through exercise"

Exercise is my other biggest way to detox is detoxing with exercise. I see a lot of lymphatic blood congestion with people. Detoxing your lymph systems can be tricky. Most people don’t really know about our lymph system. It runs alongside the circulatory system in your body but it doesn’t have a pump like your circulatory system does with the heart.

When we think about our legs, and arms things that are further away from our heart, your legs in the circulatory systems have little valves that hold the blood to keep it from going up and the heart will pump and then it pushes and holds that so it keeps going.

The lymph system doesn’t have any of those valves or anything like that. It doesn’t have a heart to pump it out. So you want to keep your body moving. That’s the best way to detox the lymph system. The lymph system is basically your body’s way of naturally getting rid of garbage. It’s your garbage system, but your system doesn’t have a pump so it relies on movement.

Dry brushing your skin, massage and all those things really help move that lymph system. That’s why massage and dry brushing is super good. I even recommend dry brushing your face.

When dry brushing, always go toward the heart. If you’re dry brushing your face I always recommend going down your neck first, then you can dry brush your face, and then bring it back down to your heart.

Jumping on a mini trampoline is super great for moving that lymph system. It not only adds the pressure of movement with a bounce but it’s really good for helping you detox.

There’s a big difference in mini trampolines. I recommend rebounders. They’re totally worth it. I bought my rebounder about twelve years ago and it’s still just as good. Even the kids love jumping on it because it feels good, it’s a fun bounce. Some give you headaches because they’re just jarring and they’re not flowing. So if you look into rebounders it’s worth the money of getting something that’s good and not going to give you a headache. If it gives you a headache you’re never going to use it!

I like to jump even during my pregnancy. I wouldn’t recommend starting at eight months pregnant, but if you continually do it, it’s fine. Your body is used to it. But then I’ll take a little bit of time off and then start jumping again. It’s my favorite after pregnancy exercise.

I jump on my trampoline for ten to fifteen minutes, but you work up to that. Even if you just do a bounce where your feet don’t come off the material, if you just kind of wiggle and bounce and work out to a full on up and down bounce for fifteen minutes.

It feels good, it will help your lungs and open up breathing areas and I even recommend it to people with headaches. Not a full migraine but if you just have a headache, jumping on a trampoline, even though it doesn’t feel natural, it’s a really great way to get that blood circulation back into the brain.

A lot of women tell me they can’t jump on a rebounder because of their bladder. A lot of women have diastasis recti and things like that. The rebounder can actually heal that really well. So it might be a little tricky to start out with, but you start using those muscles to contract and hold things in, it actually rebuilds them. So when having those leaky issues, although they’re a little frustrating, as you continue to do it, it will rebuild and actually heal that.

A good walk is very healing and powerful. Any type of movement.

Detoxing Minds

Picture of brain with the words "detoxing your mind"

When we talk about detox everybody always thinks about the body, and that’s important, but thoughts are so important to detox too. Your negative thoughts can actually make your body acidic. An acidic body is what leads the way to diseases, cancer and things like that. So we don’t want to be in an acidic state of our body.

We want to be in a place where we’re more alkaline and balanced with our thoughts and the things that we do.

I like to use vision boards. I think having a goal that’s clearly written and you have a vision of it with pictures or in your mind, or writing a story of what you want to accomplish. It’s a great way to detox your thoughts and help you stay focused on the things you actually want.

When we think about detoxing our body, I love to have people create a story of the end results even if it’s only six weeks and then write that story down. Make a vision board about it, write a little statement, put a picture of all the things that really help in detoxing.

Conclusion

Detoxing is important to your health, both mental and physical. And while you can improve your physical health through nutrition and exercise, you can also improve your mental health through positive thoughts and vision boards.
